Anyone who has been into computers long enough will remember the ATI
9600 and 9800 range of cards. Can't work out why nVidia chose similar
names.

Is it me or is this a golden opportunity for the Ebay scammers?

Well ATI looped around and went back to 1000 numbers, so NVIDIA will
probably manage a similar feat. Considering they never had 1800's
through 3800's, there's enough room for at least 3-4 more generations
and by then the name Geforce could be retired.

Geforce 1800K Ultra < WTF?

To make matters more interesting, some vendors like Asus and MSI made cards
for both camps...
