The question is so current and topical that the entire enthusiast
community already knows the answer, you could have cited it yourself, Bill.
The only advantage the 9600GT might have over the 8800GT is
price/performance ratio, and that is based on each users expectations
and budget. |

Not the same price. 20% difference, actually. Cheapest 9600GT 512MB is $180
at Newegg; cheapest 8800GT 512MB is $220.
Remember, the 9600GT is just the beginning. There is a 9800GT coming around
March/April, according to HardOCP.

The 8800GT will likely be discontinued at that point. i.e. they will become
increasingly difficult to find in retail.

That's $190 after MIR. Not the same. (Though it's still a good deal.)
Again, the reason the 9600GT is priced this way, is because the 8800GT will
be discontinued in the a month or two.

9600GT is a low-end card... you should compare 8800 against 9800.
