71.84 or 78.05. The 80 series haven't had many FX specific fixes or
optimizations. They do list incompatibility fixes (probably the shadow
problem in BF2 for example), but the 70 series is likely to benchmark
higher in older games. Image quality has remained the same and the FX
doesn't suffer from any shimmer artifacts or adaptive anisotropic
filtering (it uses full non-adaptive aniso and turning off trilinear
optimizations works very well).

I find that the 77.77 whql set is very good and rock solid with my P4 2.66
and FX5900 128 card in Xp Pro Sp2.

You may want to try the newest nvidia drivers. I play EQ2 and have a FX5500
only nvidia drivers
that did not crash the game as 66.93. But the 84.21 drivers have been
stable with the game and no
crashes so far. Normally other driver outside 66.93 would crash the game in
1-2 hours. Been 3
days without a single crash and even faster.
