The 7800GT is listed under the "Products Supported" tab on the web page, but
not in the PDF release notes.
Interestingly, the "International English" (UK) version download page
doesn't contain the 7800GT.

compatible with your current hardware. Setup will now exit."
uninstalled, used driver cleaner - experimented with doing everything in
safe mode but still get that bloody message. |

Whether by accident or design, your card is not listed in nv4_disp.inf.
This is easily fixed by cutting and pasting the relevant code from an
earlier version. You need to edit two sections, [NVIDIA.Mfg] and [Strings].
For example, to restore my 7800GT I would add the following lines:
[NVIDIA.Mfg]
%NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0092.1% = nv4_NV3x, PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0092
[Strings]
NVIDIA_G70.DEV_0092.1 = "NVIDIA GeForce 7800 GT"
The entry under [NVIDIA.Mfg] enables the driver setup to recognise my 7800GT
as compatible hardware, and the entry under [Strings] determines that the
correct text will appear during the installation. |

for some reason my 6800 GT cards are described as "6800 Series GPU" and
not the "6800 GT" that is mentioned in the nv4_disp.inf file so
successfully transplanted the correct entries from the last set of
drivers.

I am rather a newbie. I installed CoolBits for overclocking my 7600GT
card. I had a 94.24 driver. I want to install the latest driver
163.44.
Can you tell me what is "old registry panel hack" ? And what CoolBits
I should load -- v.1 or v.2 ?
