Hi,

Corel told me that these beta drivers (that are available from Guru3D,
supposedly) will allow me to install and run Paint Shop Pro 9. I
generally don't use beta drivers and am curious if these are safe. Any
idea when the will go live?

I've never used System Restore John. Believe it or not, I am a newbie
to XP. My old PC had Windows 2000 Pro installed. Cool, I'll check it
out,

Yup! That's the problemo. And I can't play Madden 2006 and King Kong
(only tried the demo) because of it. Otherwise, everything runs fine
(except Unreal Tournament 2004 reports 10 digit framerates but runs
great).

Thanks,

If in any doubt, just create a System restore point before removal of
the exiting driver and another System restore before installing the
new one.

System restore ---> Add/delete programs to delete the current driver
--> reboot the machine ---> System Restore ---> Install new driver.

You have a dual core AMD? These fix the problem with it. As reported
by someone in this group.

Hi PW, McG. here.
I was in on the discussion on the nVidia drivers + dual core CPU + PSP ver.
9 and X. of the 8x.xx series, only the 83.10 set allow me to run PSP 9 and
X with the X2 dual core 4800+.
I did find the drivers, but not through guru3d.

BTW, PSP8 runs fine with 81.98 and X2. Seems as if nVidia may be
patching one of Corel's blunders.

I found them at Guru3D (didn't download them) but first read a
discussion of them there. Can't remember what it was but something
scared me away. I am going to hang on and hope that NVIDIA gets their
act together soon and releases reliable drivers for Dual-Core systems.
Can't play SW Battlefront 2, Madden 2006, King Kong and who knows what
else because of them. But some games run great.

Thanks McG!

Since I have none of these games, please explain exactly what happens
in each case. If they just crash out, have you tried to manually Set
Affinity on the executable after the game is started, or modified the
installed executable to the use of a single-core by using
"imagecfg.exe" ? (Use Google to find it and its documentation;
install exactly as per instructions.. it has to be loaded from the
command-line to 2 places, one is a "hidden" system directory, not
visible in Explorer.. sorry, I did not bookmark a URL ). There is a
very strong possibility that the games were not tested on full
dual-core systems and the problems you are getting have nothing
to do with the video driver.

For all the XP-compatible games in my collection (so far) and driver
81.98 only Arx Fatalis fails to run on my X2, and does not respond to
Set Affinity or imagecfg. However, it also refuses to run on my P4
Prescott system without turning off Hyperthreading in BIOS; the
problem does not appear to be with the executable but a
dual-core-sensitive bug in one of the intro/ cut-scene video -modules.
Unfortunately the modules are dynamically unloaded in-game from a
custom .pak file, so appropriate sabotage to bypass the proiblem is
not possible.

Madden 2006 runs like it's at light speed. The players move their
arms, etc... real fast. The play clock goes from 24 to 1 second in 1
second.

King Kong demo is almost as bad.

Star Wars Battlefront 2 locks up or crashes to the desktop. I surfed
the LucasArts forum and it's a known issue (not sure if LA will admit
it or even issue a patch) and I am not the only one. It appears that
anyone with a Dual-Core system can't play the game. I am not willing
to try some of crazy "fixes" recommended there that only work for some
people - especially not for just one game.

Not sure if I want to go through this for just 2 games. Thanks though

KK demo seems OK on X2 to me. Junk console port, but might be worth
picking up @ $9.99 from the PC bargain bin in the near future.

Glad I found your post, gave me a clue there was a possible fix by going to
Nvidia betadrivers. Havent been able to install PSP9 nor PSPX. If the
installation was succesful (half of the times) the actual application refused
to start (just hanging and consuming 50% CPU (which made me suspect the dual
core CPU).

Anyway, installed 83.40 beta drivers from Guru3D and now it works fine. No
glitches so far, PSP runs just fine, havent tried that many games though.
